Kevin’s Background and Counseling Philosophy
And now here is my secret: a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.
– from The Little Prince
Kevin has been providing professional counseling and consultation services since receiving his Master’s degree from the University of Madison in 1990. He later continued his professional training at the Family Therapy Training Institute, where he now serves as Director. While comfortably working with people however they prefer to come for service, he especially enjoys working with couples, families and groups. Relationships matter, he believes. “This is where we are gifted the opportunity to be our best selves, both in the joyful peaks of our lives or in the crucible of our inevitable valleys.”
Kevin believes in using play and humor to help people tap into their hope and optimism — especially when doing so seems beyond the reach of reason. Having received training in numerous approaches (EMDR, MFT, EFT, etc.), he believes that best practices are important. Psychotherapy research, though, has borne out what every good therapist knows in their heart; that good counseling will always be come down to building a quality relationship with each person as a unique and special individual. That knowledge is the cornerstone of Kevin’s work with people.
As the fox continued to instruct the little prince about why one rose would matter above others, “It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose important.”
